History
As part of the expansion of New Forest School, our Totton Site was registered with OFSTED in 2017. Our site is long term leased from Totton College (NACRO) and allowed us to increase our maximum Number on Roll to 80 Students (across our three school sites). The building has seen substantial internal refurbishment to provide suitable teaching areas for all curriculum subjects under one roof.
Focus
The focus of our Totton Site is on developing and implementing a highly specialised collaborative curriculum, which incorporates health, therapy, such as Occupational Therapist, speech and language and ELSA working together with teachers to support our young people to reach their potential.
Facilities
The site currently comprises of a main double storey school building plus an additional single storey building directly opposite (linked to the main college) with 14 classrooms, a large open upstairs area, reception, offices, a 1:1 work room and Pastoral/ELSA and OT spaces. The large upstairs space provides a communal area for breakout teaching, assemblies and events, a computer area and a library area. The additional single storey building also has a communal area leading to the classrooms/meeting room which can be used for smaller group activities.
A large all-weather, multi-surface playground provides PE and break time facilities whilst there is a small area of outdoor space, which laid to lawn and has picnic benches and a designated learning space.
Students are also able to access our School Farm, our Construction Hub and Outdoor Learning Centre which provide additional curriculum opportunities including nationally recognised qualifications through City & Guilds, BTEC and Outdoor Awards from appropriate NGB’s.
Students
Students come from a variety of social backgrounds, with a range of educational, social and emotional needs. The school will specialise in working with students with ASC, SEMH, attachment disorders and areas of mental health. Many of the students will have been out of fulltime education for a significant length of time. Links with the Outdoor Learning centre are established and transition for some students carefully managed and planned.
Children will require an EHCP to be referred to the school with places usually being commissioned by Local Authorities.
The school will offer full time and part time attendance to meet the needs of individual students. The school focuses on students from Year 7 -11.
